Why: Marlys Cheney was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer in January of 2011. After several months of pain, her doctors decided to do a routine hysterectomy. While in surgery, they discovered a grapefruit sized tumor encased by her uterus. Doctors determined she had ovarian cancer. Having to undergo additional surgery she also endured 6 months of chemo and finished in June of 2011. She was in remission for 15 months when she started not feeling well again. After some routine tests, Marlys found that her cancer had returned. After another surgery and another 6 month cycle of chemo, 2 bouts of radiation, several additional chemo treatments & upcoming surgeries she is still battling this nasty disease.
Because ovarian cancer is hard to detect, it is important that we spread awareness for the early detection signs of ovarian cancer. The Cheney family believes that ovarian cancer research is on the verge of finding an early detection test to help prevent this from happening to any of the women in your family. This fundraiser is benefiting the Marsha Rivkin Center for Ovarian cancer in hopes that we can make a difference and save the lives of your grandmothers, mothers, daughters, sisters and wives. Do it for the Marlys in your life.
